Tuesdays with Dorie: French Pear Tart

dsc_0004

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since Laurie started Tuesdays with Dorie on a whim to try to get herself to bake more from Dorie’s fabulous book.  I learned about the group very early on and joined in the fourth or fifth week, with the Black and White Cake being my first recipe.  I have had a lot of fun baking along with the group this past year, and I am excited to see what this year will bring!

In honor of the first anniversary of TWD, Dorie has chosen the first recipe of 2009.  She chose the French Pear Tart, which she says is one of her favorites.  I love pears, although I sometimes forget about them when I buy fruit, so I was glad to have this to force me to think about them.  David also really loves pears, so I was pretty sure he would love this.

This was fairly easy to put together.  I’ve made the tart dough before with great success.  This is a fabulous dough, and it’s proven to be versatile.  My favorite part about his recipe was the cream.  I could just eat it by the spoonful!  I used rum in it, but I think that amaretto would be very good as well and would pair well with the almonds.  The combination of ingredients in this tart was delicious, and it was a big hit with David.  He ate every bit of the mini tart I made!  It’s not often you see pears in a dessert, so I was glad to have this opportunity to try it.  Thanks Dorie for playing along with us and choosing this dessert!  Also many thanks to Laurie for starting this group and for everything you do!  Visit the Tuesdays with Dorie blog to see all the other pear tarts out there!
